Google has added a feature in its search function that helps you understand the six degrees of separation between any actor and the Hollywood star Kevin Bacon. This is one of the many Google Easter eggs that shows the funny side of the search engine.
Kevin Bacon is a famous Hollywood celebrity who’s acted in many Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Footloose’, ‘Tremors’, ‘Apollo 13’, etc. Kevin Bacon continues to charm audiences with current hits like ‘X Men: First Class’ and ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’. He’s starred in so many movies that in an interview given in 1994, Kevin Bacon claimed that he had acted with almost all the famous Hollywood actors. It’s been 18 years since then; Kevin Bacon must have added so many more actors to the list. This hunch that Kevin Bacon is either connected directly or indirectly to all actors gave birth to the ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’.
‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ takes its name from the six degrees of separation that believes that a person can draw a connection to anyone else through six connections. In this case, ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ connects the actor Kevin Bacon to any actor either directly or via another co-star. This started off as a trivia game until it caught stem and Google decided to get in on the action and create an Easter egg out of it.
In 2012, Google provided the opportunity for searchers to find out the number of degrees that separate an actor and Kevin Bacon. A person needs to type in ‘bacon number’ and follow that with another actor’s name. The ‘Bacon number’ of an actor is the number of degrees between him/ her and Kevin Bacon; so, the ‘Bacon number’ finds the shortest path between Kevin Bacon and another actor. Kevin Bacon is in the centre of the chain with the number zero and every other actor is placed in the order. If an actor has directly not worked with Kevin Bacon then his ‘Bacon number’ increases as he is connected to the actor through another one.
‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ is one of the many quirky features on Google. Google exhibits a healthy sense of humour with such features through such Easter eggs. Find out your favourite actor’s Bacon connection today by typing in ‘bacon number’ and his name on Google.
