PBS Arts has undertaken a series called Off Book that talks about new media art, internet culture, modern design, etc. PBS Arts released a new video in the Off Book series titled ‘The Art of Animation and Motion Graphics’. It chronicles the nature, rise and current form of motion graphics.Motion graphics are videos that use animation techniques to create the illusion of movement. They mostly combine text and audio in multimedia video format. Motion graphics are very similar to infographics but they dissociate from the medium of infographics as they are dynamic and not static due to their use of animation. Motion graphics are not interactive in nature; they’re more like videos and films and are displayed on electronic media. Most motion graphics videos online educate us on important facts of a particular subject matter using apropos typography, good Voice-overs and eye catching animation.

‘The Art of Animation and Motion Graphics’ by PBS Arts Off Book aims to establish the history of motion graphics, its relation to animation and puts into perspective the form that motion graphics have taken today. ‘The Art of Animation and Motion Graphics’ shows the evolution of motion graphics from animation by presenting motion graphics as a form of new age experimental animation. The narrative of this video seems to lack a structure and it oscillates from animation to motion graphics without establishing a clear picture of any of the two art forms. ‘The Art of Animation and Motion Graphics’ still presents a few interesting ideas about animation and motion graphics.
