Many a rookie has used the font Comic Sans in everyday communication just because he  has an affinity to this cute font. If you’re one of them, you’re not only facing the ire of designers, but also making an offence. Comic Sans Criminal teaches you a lesson on using the font correctly.

http://digitalanalog.in/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gifComic Sans is a commonly used font that brings back memories of reading comics as a child. As a matter of fact, this sans-serif font was used in Microsoft Windows 95 as an add-on font and also used in speech bubbles that helped users understand the software. It is a font that can be easily read by dyslexics. The font became popular with children owing to its playful look; these children grew up mentally but didn’t let go of their favourite childhood font.

The whole world started despising the font because of its widespread use. It was too whimsical a font to be used in business documents and other official announcements. There is a decorum that comes with using Comic Sans so one must tread with caution. If used incorrectly, this font can create a mess. For e.g., you can’t write a eulogy for a Kargil war veteran in this playful font.

Comic Sans Criminal is an HTML5 website that instructs us in the dos and don’ts of using the typeface. It teaches us a valuable lesson in using the Comic Sans font in apposite situations. It neatly states all the rules of using it and ends with a pledge for all the offenders of Comic Sans. You can also send alerts to ‘Comic Sans Criminals’ as a wake-up call to stop the abuse. What’s missing on the HTML5 website is an intervention driven by social media. This HTML5 website is like Superman trying to bring the baddies to justice; like Batman trying to fight for justice (I couldn’t resist a comic book analogy).

For a nice aftertaste, I am posting some hilarious photos of the serious offence.

A lot of the design community is up in arms when it comes to using Comic Sans unnecessarily. Regular folks pretty much don’t care. :P
