This year’s Vimeo Festival+Awards is going to commence on the 8th of June. It’s a day when Vimeo‘s best videos get their due recognition, apart from the accolades they receive via hits and shares on the website. Let’s find out what’s the buzz of the Vimeo Festival+Awards 2012.
Vimeo is a video sharing website that’s popular because it provides a great platform for budding directors, music video makers, animators, etc. to showcase their work. You won’t find frivolous videos on Vimeo like the ones you see on YouTube. I can literally spend hours looking at the movies, animations and music videos that are uploaded regularly on Vimeo. (A neat fact: Vimeo, the word, is an anagram of the word ‘movie’.)
The Vimeo Festival+Awards is a two day festival that commemorates the fine work that’s uploaded time and again. It brings recognition to the countless artists who strive to produce high quality work. It also makes the winner richer by $25,000! The festival is held annually in New York City and is packed with workshops, screenings, and discussions to excite the cinephile in everyone. The Vimeo Festival+Awards is going to be held from 8th June to 9th June this year.
The festival includes workshops by Hollywood actor/director Ed Burns and many indie filmmakers like Loc Dao, Vincent Laforet, Jonathan Gottschall, etc. The list is endless; to get a full overview of the speakers, click here. The two day festival is full to the brim with workshops on lighting for videos, selecting the right camera on your shoots, role of audio in films and much more. Again, to get a complete idea of the workshops, click here. The topics for open discussions will be loved by scores of newbie directors who’d better their craft after attending these conversations at the Vimeo Festival+Awards 2012; click here to know more.
Now, coming to the most exciting part of the festival: the competition. The competition heats up this year with entries from Stuart Howe, Rob Chiu, James Curran, etc. The movies are filtered into various categories to better segregate them. All in all, the Vimeo Festival+Awards 2012 brings together a pool of talented auteurs to compete for its top prize. I’ll be watching the entries on a timely basis and tell you guys my take on them.
