Twitter is over capacity – Is Google+ the reason?

When you log on to Twitter, does the above image show up on your screen? This implies that Twitter is over capacity because their browsers are being bogged down by too many tweets.

Well, I wonder what people are tweeting about? It can’t be global warming because that’s old news. It can’t be the economy because everyone is doing OK. It can’t be because of Charlie Sheen or Lady Gaga – I don’t think they’ve done anything in the last 24-48 hours that is creating a buzz. So, what could it be?

My guess is Google+. People are going crazy over Google+ and there is a huge demand-supply mismatch. I’ve read comments that are quite shocking to say the least. For e.g. “I will give you my middle child and my left nut for an invite” or “I will give you my wife for a week if you give me an invite”.

The reason – Yesterday, at some point, Google decided to temporarily disallow invites to its service, which probably sent everyone into a frenzy. DigitalAnalog had access to invites, and quite generously decided to give them away till the shutdown occurred.

But clearly, Google is following the same strategy as it did with Gmail. Quite frankly, I think its brilliant.

Nevertheless, if you are interested in a Google+ invite, check out this link once registration opens.

Google+ (#googleplus) is an integration of #Twitter, Skype and #Facebook. It is has a good interface that is easy-to-use, intuitive and simple

People prefer keeping their #Twitter and #Facebook account separate because people like to have different identities – usage patterns vary drastically across both platforms

The fundamental question is will I abandon my #Facebook and #Twitter account and shift to Google+ (#googleplus) if all my friends / followers are on it? At present, I don’t see that happening.

In my opinion, its only a matter of time until people switch to Google+ from other social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

        Dude

Dont jump the gun. FB still has 750 million users. FB is also doing a Skype integration to their chat. They are sitting on lot of cash and can move into rapid development with their features.

This is exactly what I am talking about

Firstly, FB’s Skype integration only supports video chatting and not ‘group’ video chatting – a feature that Google+ offers with Hangout. Secondly, im not jumping the gun – ive clearly stated that “in my opinion” that would happen – which may not be what actually happens.
