Due to the vulnerability of the security systems in India, The Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) has decided to work on the development of India’s own operating system (OS) . This will make the data more secure and away from the reach of the hackers.
V.K Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to the Defense Minister and DRDO Director-General after inaugurating the DRDO Transit Facility in Bangalore was supportive of this venture and added to it by saying that the whole idea will make the data extremely secure especially for bodies like banks and defense establishments where security of the data is of prime importance.
Two software engineering centers will set up in Bengaluru and New Delhi to work on this project. The project will also be supported by institutes like the Indian Institute of Science, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the Centre for Development of Telematics.
The OS will support Windows application. However the source code will be with DRDO to make it more secure.
